50+ Bedazzling Star Quilt Patterns for Beginners and Beyond

Updated: 12-6-22

If you ask a quilter what her favorite quilt is, more than likely it'll be a star quilt pattern of some sort--Friendship, Sawtooth, Lone Star, LeMoyne to name a few.

The goal with this eclectic collection of 50+ star quilt patterns for beginners to more  advanced quilters was to create something versatile enough so that even those without much experience can comfortably execute their own version based on the given instructions.

The secret to stitching reliably accurate star quilts and blocks

Like virtually every other quilt block you make, a star block is constructed sewing a straight line from Point A to Point B.

The general quilting recommendations apply: cut, pin, stitch, and press accurately.

To achieve this, I encourage you to:

  • Construct a sample block to test the instructions. Make sure the techniques in the pattern complement your piecing skills.

Pressing is terribly important. A good press job means there are no tucks at the seams. That the patches aren't distorted as the patches are pressed. Seam allowances don't add any unnecessary bulk.

Have a look at my 'secret' technique for pressing. Quick. Simple.

And you won't need to buy a wooden clapper that seem to be the rage in quilting circles these days.

Let's get to the good stuff!

Find the perfect star quilt patterns for beginners and beyond

This tempting selection of star quilt patterns includes both paid and free quilt patterns. Free patterns are marked with a highlighted FREE in the title for your convenience.

Remember, star quilt patterns don't have to be all half- and quarter-square-triangles. They can be made with squares, rectangles and 'logs', too.

Now, kick back with something soothing to sip on and enjoy the inspo!
