The nicest things happen when you least expect it.

Like these three art quilts that were submitted today by Rose Legge, a fiber artist who calls Colorado home.

There is just something about the human face juxtaposed against fabric, pattern and imagery that draws me in. You, too? They have such an ethereal quality to them.

A United Nations Exhibit

The third quilt above called Strife and Serenity is a quilt Rose created for "Peace Quilts: Women's Power and Resilience in Conflicts", a United Nations traveling exhibit.

The woman portrayed is, in the captured moment, simultaneously engulfed by war and conflict, and yet, possessed of serenity and hope...the strength of woman captured in cloth. Click here to see this work while it was progress.

The video below—Rose's quilt appears at 1 minute 34 seconds in—is from the opening of the exhibition that was held in Geneva, Switzerland.

To think that this exhibit came together from a Facebook group. Amazing, the power of quilters connected online.

Now, for those quilters lucky enough to live in the Summit Colorado area, you have the opportunity to see this artist's work in person.

The Summit County Arts Council will be showing some of Rose's work in the various Summit County public buildings during the next two months (May and June 2011). More information is available in the Summit Daily News.

You needn't admire from afar...

Rose does do commission work and specializes in portraits on fabric. Distance is not a problem, as she can work with you remotely with using a photograph.

Breathtakingly beautiful, Rose. Thank you for sharing your quilts!
