Viking 875 Quilt

by Sarah
(Elgin Illinois)

This machine has given me nothing but headaches.

I am an art quilter.

I primarily free motion stitch. This machine creates bird nests on the underside of my work. If I use the thread cutter, it does not retract and does not release the bobbin thread, causing lots of jamming.

I have taken the machine for cleaning and repair numerous times, bring it home having been told the problem is fixed. If I try to do anything other than straight sewing, the machine starts jamming again.

I spent a lot of money initially on the purchase, and more money trying to get the machine repaired.

I am beyond frustrated.

I had nesting underneath as I was sewing and doing free motion. I found that putting my machine in spring action without lowering the feed dogs allowed me to draw on my cloth with the spring action foot attached to the sewing machine.

I found a great repair person in Homewood, Alabama.

He solved my nesting problem of threads bunched underneath the material.

I had similar issues

I have a Topaz 30. Had similar issues with mine. Mine worked great as long as i used the zigzag op plate. I purchased the straight stitch plate.

I started having jams and tension issues creating the birds nest in the bottom. I stopped sewing and took it to my dealer with the needle down fabric included. Threaded just like I was using it.

They discovered my needle was just a hair off center. When it hit, it caused the top thread to jump tension which was causing the problems.

I hope this helps. As I love my Viking Topaz 30 and am thinking of adding a Sapphire 965.

These are excellent machines. Also make sure you have the latest software update.

And please find an excellent dealer. That makes all the difference.

Wish you the best in your search for a solution.

I have had similar problems. Seems like about every 11-12 months. My Viking dealer is excellent and he continued to work on my machine until he solved the problem. He did call Viking Husqvarna and searched for an answer.

Have your dealer/repairman check the calibration pin. After 2 or 3 times I think he finally glued it because it kept coming out about 3/16" (I just reviewed my repair receipts).

Good luck, I hope this helps. It was so frustrating.

I have this machine and love it. I do not have the problems you describe at all.

I suspect your repair person (hope he/she is NOT a Viking rep) is not qualified to fix it.

Problem is, there are few Viking dealers who will repair your machine if you didn't buy from them. Hope you can find another dealer who will. In my area there is a BabyLock dealer who excels at Viking machines.

Shop around and good luck!
