Norwegian Floral Fantasy

Norwegian Floral Fantasy

This is a hand applique quilt designed, hand appliqued and free motion machine quilted by my mother, Trudy Wasson. She is the designer of all the Generations Quilt Patterns that you've seen when we've been vending at shows.

I wish I could take better pictures. This is only the center of the quilt. She has done simply amazing quilting in the outside borders. Unfortunately, I am not as good a photo taker as she is a quilter.

Before Mom was a quilter, she was/is a gold-medal winning Rosemaler and author of two books and many patterns on the subject. (Rosemaling is a type of decorative painting done in Norway.)

This quilt represents the Rogaland style of rosemaling, the style which Mom is most known for.

I hand dyed all the fabric for the quilt...we used the Joen Wolfram color cards (you know, the ones that look kind of like paint cards)...she'd choose a color from the card and email me..."Card 7, left 5 down"...or something to the like. It was an interesting process!

All the little stem lines are stem stitched by hand with embroidery floss. In fact all the needleturn applique has been stem stitched around.

It is truly a spectacular quilt.

I hope you enjoy it!

Generations Quilt Patterns Availability
by: Julie Baird, Editor

Hi Jan,

I am working on turning several of Trudy's rosemaling designs into applique quilt patterns this year.

Once they are published I will make an announcement on the website and in our newsletter. May I recommend either subscribing to our RSS feed (the orange button to the left under the Nav Bar or to "STASH Talk" our monthly Newsletter, again listed just under our Nav Bar.

I plan to build the "Store" this summer and expect to have applique, piecing and machine quilting designs, as well as, hand dyed fabric available on it.

To get a sneak peak at one of our upcoming applique designs, see Quilting Applique Quilt Patterns and scroll down just a bit.

Thank you for your interest, I'm glad you enjoyed Trudy's quilts! That would have made her happy.

Piecefully,

Julie Baird
Proud daughter and Editor

Generations Quilt Patterns
by: Jan

Since I am not close to any of the quilt shows is there any way to order the Generations Quilt patterns?
We saw your quilts displayed at Vesterheim in Decorah on Tuesday. They are beautiful!
