The DeKalb County Quilters' Guild is a registered 501 c (3) not-for-profit organization whose purpose is to foster a love of quilting in those both interested in quilts and quilt making. We meet monthly (except for November) at St. Ann's in Sycamore, Illinois.
A typical guild meeting includes a 'Show and Tell' with members sharing their current quilts, workshops demonstrating a variety of quilting techniques may be given by our guild members and time for socializing and getting to know each other.
Sharing is a common theme in our guild. At a meeting expect to find a fabric box. Members bring fabric they no longer want and, if they've contributed a piece to the box, they may take a piece from the box.
Road trips to quilt shows or other quilting-related travel are organized by the guild. Not only are they fun, in and of themselves, but they give our membership the chance to get to know each other a bit better in a relaxed and fun setting.
A guild quilt show is held every other, even-numbered year, with the next one slated for the Fall of 2012. These quilt shows help us to fund our guild activities and donations to charity, either directly or through our many guild service projects.
One meeting per year is set aside so that members may work together on a current service project.
Previous and on-going projects have included:
Donations to our local hospital to help make mammograms available to DeKalb County women who otherwise could not afford them
Baby quilts to the Rockford Memorial Hospital neonatal Unit
'Quillows' (a combination quilt and pillow) for the DeKalb County Sheriff's department
Specialty items made by our member for our local nursing homes.
Quilters of all skill levels, all ages, are welcome to join us!
