Savannah Courtyard from a pattern by Fons and Porter
Another one bites the dust!
UFO that is. The Fons and Porter quilt pattern and fabric for this quilt were purchased in 1997. Over the years I would pull it out, study the pattern directions, feel the fabrics and say..."Maybe next year..."
And back on the shelf it would go. After the last Pride of the Prairie Quilt Show, I pulled out the pattern and the fabrics and said..."It's time!"
I started on the journey a little at a time knowing that I would eventually finish the quilt. It was such a joy working with the different quilt block patterns and fabrics. Dan Kolbe's (of D.C.'s Quilting in Plano, IL) quilting designs help make this quilt come to life.
Which brings me to this question? Can you envision the courtyard? Starting in the center with the colorful Mariner's Compass, you can follow the several different pathways throughout the courtyard, at every turn taking in all the colors and textures of the "gardens".
Do you feel the serenity in my "Savannah Courtyard?"
I came across this page while searching for ideas for a medallion quilt. And since I'm fascinated with mariner's star patterns I kept looking at it.
The more I looked at the photo, the more I kept thinking it looked like a quilt I saw at a quilt show a few months ago and since Minooka is not that far from Crest Hill, I figured maybe it is the same quilt. But since the photo is not too detailed I wasn't sure.
So, since I never throw anything away, I dug out the program from the show, and browsed through it, and discovered I was right!!!!!
Your quilt is beautiful, and I particularly like the use of the mariner's star type center in a non-nautical design. Lovely.
