Bernina 550 QE

The Bernina 550 QE

The Bernina 550 QE

I upgraded from my Bernina 153 to the 550 and on the whole I am very pleased with the new machine...however, the alphabets are "messy" compared to the 153. I wanted to "write" my own labels but unless I can find a solution I am back to writing them by hand.

The stitch regulator is brilliant...I tend to be a little erratic on the foot pedal and the BSR has given me complete control.

I have a three hour lesson booked at the shop where I purchased the machine so I'm hoping I can rectify the alphabet problem.

I find the manual is a little confusing so I will be writing my own in an "easy to understand at a glance" format.

I also found it difficult to exit the "home" page, there is not enough clear information in the manual...or maybe I've not read the relevant page !!

The machine is heavier than I expected but as it will sit permanently in my Horn cabinet that is not a problem for me; however if I had wanted to take it to classes with me the weight would be prohibitive.

I have only had the machine for less than a month but in that time I have made several wall hangings and dozens of samples for my class and not had any problems.

I would like to know if I can down-load extra alphabets using the memory stick from Bernina...I know this will be an expensive item and don't want to buy it if it's not going to be of any use to me. I have been on the Bernina website for info but it doesn't tell me what I want to know.
I would appreciate comments on the above and also advice about the lettering and memory stick.

Thanks,

Diane
