Learn to quilt with Julie Baird of Generations Quilt Patterns. Our current quilt classes are listed below. Use the store contact information to sign up for classes.

Rogaland Rosemaling Applique

This week long class is held in the classrooms of the Vesterheim Norwegian American Museum in Decorah, Iowa.

Rogaland Rosemaling Applique Class Sample

This year heralds the introduction of rosemaling-inspired appliqué designs.

Join Vesterheim for an exciting week of learning rosemaling with fabrics that have been specially hand dyed for this project by Julie Baird. The basis for the class will be an original Rogaland appliqué design by Trudy Wasson.

Students will receive instruction in both needleturn appliqué, invisible machine appliqué, and free motion machine quilting on their domestic sewing machine. Daily lessons include learning to shade scrollwork, creating perfect appliqué circles, embroidered stem stitching, creating flowers, and finishing techniques to complete this lovely wall hanging. Pattern and fabric/supply kits will be provided at a cost to be determined.

August 9-13, 2010 | $318 members / $368 non-members

For more information and a registration form, visit the Vesterheim Norwegian-American Museum website.

quilted and stippled.

Join Julie Baird in this class designed for the beginning machine quilter. We will discuss the tools and supplies needed to quilt on your domestic sewing machine. This includes sewing machine care and setup, quilting tools, workspace set up, threads, batts, fabrics, pressing, pre-washing. Next it's hands-on basting of a small quilt sandwich. Then stitch in the ditch instruction and practice.

You'll learn to quilt stippling, a background fill pattern. You'll draw it and have class time for guided practice. Additional patterns will be introduced as time permits.

Have a top sitting at home? You're encouraged to bring it to class for ideas how to quilt it.
