A reader asks...

What is the yardage needed for double bed sized pineapple block quilt?

Julie replies...

A lot of variables figure into calculating quilt yardage. To provide a good estimate of the yardage you'll need for a Pineapple quilt pattern design I need you to provide the following information:
  1. What size do you need the finished quilt to be?

There is a worksheet on this page. Just scroll down to the link to a "Worksheet for Calculating Quilt Sizes" to help you do this towards the bottom of the page.

Because you are making the quilt, you can have any size you want.

  2. I've shown two blocks at the top of this page. Which variation and which size do you prefer?

To help you make the decision click here to visit my Pineapple quilt design page. There are several designs. Let me know if one interests you.

I have paper piecing patterns for both a 6" and and 8" block. Click here for instructions to make them.

  3. Do you want solid fabric borders on your quilt? If so, how many and what size? Or can they be used simply to tweak the finished measurements to get them to where you need?

  4. Will you use just two fabrics? Or just two colors, but multiple fabrics? Or one background and scrappy?

Again, placement of the light and dark blades is needed to determine the final yardage of the various fabrics.
I think that takes care of it for now. With this information I'll be able to move ahead on drafting the initial Pineapple quilt pattern design. Just let me know! :D

Piecefully,

Yardage for Pineapple quilt design
by: Connie

I am interested in a two color quilt, dble bed size. The drop, etc., is not important to me as I am giving it as a gift to use on the sofa, not a bed. Perhaps you can give me the name of a pineapple block book that would have the info. if you are not so inclined to answer the question.
Thanks!
